Computer Generated Forces (CGF) Software Engineer


Join our defence and national security business and you’ll be helping users plan and train to meet the most complex security threats in the world. Working alongside experts in AI and Machine Learning, computational modelling and distributed systems, you’ll be putting multiplayer technology to life-saving use.
Your mission is to tightly integrate several commercial Computer Generated Forces (CGF) products into our Platform allowing them to leverage the performance and scalability advantages it offers. These would form part of the core infrastructure, delivered via a MoD programme, to a wide range of developers and end users. The primary CGF we currently use is VBS, however experience in VR-Forces would be a distinct advantage.
We are at a very early stage in our journey and our ultimate goal is to build an Synthetic Environment ecosystem to allow all MoD suppliers to leverage our Platform to build high quality solutions.

Areas for Impact

  • You will integrate selected CGF products into the Improbable Platform, working closely with the product OEMs and our customers
  • Operating in a PoC heavy environment, you will have a lot of scope for impact in a partner facing capacity. Helping to break through and define loose requirements as well as cutting through ambiguity
  • Working closely with product managers, designers and scientific modellers, you will to help determine and design what we will build.
  • Writing coherent, logically abstracted and well structured code.
  • Collaborate closely and effectively with members of other engineering teams to find the best path to delivering a high quality solution.
  • From time-to-time you may be asked to assist with back-end engineering to ensure customer success.

We'd like to hear from you if you identify with the following:

  • Experience developing training (or other) solutions using commercial off the shelf computer generated forces (CGF) products such as MAK VR-Forces, BiSIM VBS or similar.
  • Experience of using the CGF API to extend or modify the core functionality of the product
  • Experience of implementing solutions using DIS and/or HLA to integrate CGFs and other components.
  • Please note due to the nature of this role you will be expected to meet requirements associated with obtaining UK security vetting clearance
