We believe in the power of scientific simulations coupled with cutting-edge gaming technology to transform decision making and planning in highly uncertain, rapidly evolving, complex environments. In the National Security and Defence sector, a unique opportunity exists to impact high stakes real-world outcomes by enabling decision makers to explore, interact and experiment with rich simulations of interconnected real world systems – what we refer to as single synthetic environments. Our goal is to enable the large scale adoption of single synthetic environments by governments and international institutions, to promote a collective path towards a shared, more accurate understanding of the world.
Improbable Defence develops a software platform that enables the creation of these single synthetic environments, aiming to capture for the first time the multi-domain complexity that is pervasive in modern military operations, and to provide a full simulation-supported workflow; from understanding a scenario, to planning an operation, rehearsing and training.
Single synthetic environments give decision makers a constantly improving picture on how to best prepare for crises and threats. Improbable’s platform offers new capabilities to the defence industry with a library of models, enabling defence developers to reuse and repurpose existing models and build new models of the real world in a fast, efficient and iterative way.
Mission
In 2021 we intend to scale our core engineering teams significantly and to do this we are prioritising hiring engineering managers to underpin this growth. We currently have 2 headcount in the core product group.
In both roles you would be responsible for managing, supporting and growing the software engineering team. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager for Core platform based in London.
Team One - Core Platform
Our core platform currently provides the simulation execution engine used to power wargaming, operational planning and training for our military simulation product.
Throughout 2020 we have focused our attention in building and tuning a bespoke Runtime that is able to run large-scale simulations that combine models of real world social, political and technological systems written in multiple languages, modelling tools, and existing simulation engines.
We are now in a place where we need to significantly grow our platform to support complex partner integrations, provide advanced data features, grow sophisticated orchestration features and a lot more. For that we are looking to stand up a brand new team that will be seeded from and work alongside our current platform team.
Team Two - Tooling
As we continue to invest and grow our platform capabilities, we are also looking to start building a (long!) suite of tools that will allow different user types to interact with our platform. The interaction can be in the form of a CLI for engineers to build applications on our platform, a polished UI tool assisting scientists and modellers to fine tune their models on our environment or anything in between. The remit for this team is fairly wide and we expect this team to grow into its own area within the next 1-2 years.
You will embody our values and ensure your team is working hard, being kind and having fun. You will be a servant-leader. You will embody our goal of “team before the needs of the individual in order to best fulfil our duty to our customers.”
