Senior Technical Writer, Defence

London

Join our defence and national security business and you’ll be helping users plan and train to meet the most complex security threats in the world. Working alongside experts in AI and Machine Learning, computational modelling and distributed systems, you’ll be putting multiplayer technology to life-saving use.
Improbable Defence’s product group exists to build products which enable governments and defence organisations to use synthetic environments to plan and train more effectively.
Your mission is to ensure our partners, customers and users have the resources and information they need to use our platform and related tools successfully. From getting started, to completing integrations, installation, and administration across a single synthetic environment, your documentation will be essential to our success.
You will focus on user-facing documentation and guidance for our platform and products, as well as white papers, proposals, and technical diagrams. You will create, update, review and remove documentation in collaboration with our engineering and Product teams and help create intuitive and user-friendly UI content for optimal end-to-end user experiences. We have a strong culture of developers contributing to our documentation, so collaborating with developers on what they write is a large part of the role.

Areas for impact:

  • You will create learning materials and user interface copy for our products and services to help the business and our customers master our technology.
  • You will work with UX researchers and in-service support teams to continually refine our documentation and user interface copy based on user feedback.
  • You will help to encourage a content-first approach to UX design, working closely with our Product Designers to make our applications easy to use.
  • You will develop and own the digital web-hosted documentation for our Synthetic Environment Development Platform and tools, keeping pace with a quickly evolving set of product offerings.
  • You will empathise with, and advocate for, our customers, partners, and users, conducting user testing and research and using the results to inform your work.
  • You will support proposal efforts as needed to improve overall quality and help increase conversion of commercial opportunities.

We'd like to hear from you if you identify with the following:

  • Experience writing end-to-end user interface copy and/or user-facing documentation.
  • Experience working in an agile software development environment. Excellent written and spoken communication skills, and a collaborative working style.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical topics and explain them clearly.
  • Ability to empathise with your target audience, and advocate for them.
  • Strong team spirit with the humility and maturity to want to help others around you.
  • Experience reviewing other people’s writing and giving constructive feedback.
While we think the above experience could be important, we’re keen to hear from people that believe they have valuable experience to bring to the role. If you identify with the team and mission, but not all of our requirements, then please still apply.
